December 22, 2000. I was fed up with work and I was ready to get as far away from Clarksdale, Mississippi as I possibly could! My wife and kids had already left for Columbus, Mississippi, where the kids would spend Christmas with their grandma. Mrs. Johnson you are a life-saver!
My wife and I left from Columbus, Mississippi the following day on our way to her aunt's house in Columbus, Georgia and spent the night. Thanks Marshelle for the big breakfast!
Sunday, December 24, we made the 7-hour drive from Columbus, GA to Orlando, FL. The weather was mostly sunny that day and the ride was relaxing and fun. No speeding on this trip; just another Firebird Cruise. The ride itself was therapeutic to me. I drove all the way to Ocala, FL before we got on US-27 and let my wife take it to US-192 (Irlo Bronson). That stretch of highway is beautiful! Rolling hills, nice homes, rows and rows of orange trees...I was ready to retire! We stayed at the Westgate Vacation Villas.
Of course, Orlando at Christmas time was nothing but bumper-to-bumper traffic, so we decided to spend Christmas Day at Daytona Beach. The weather was still beautiful except it was a little chilly. We were able to ride on the beach (something I've always wanted to do). We got out and did a little shopping in the beach shops. After we've shopped ourselves tired and took a nice walk on the beach, we hopped back in the Bird and cruised down A1A before we got on US-1. We decided to cruise to Titusville and visit the Kennedy Space Center. When we got there it was closed (Christmas Day...duhh). We still took pictures of the space shuttle at the space camp, then we headed back into Titusville to catch a movie. By the time the movie was over, it was dark, so my wife drove back to Orlando and we took a well-deserved rest.

Our vacation was way too short, and we left out heading back to Columbus, MS on Wednesday, December 27. We got a chance to dine at The Medieval Times Restaurant the night before, and it was wild! For the most part, all we did was sleep.
We were slapped in the face by reality when we got back to Columbus just by the weather itself: COLD! Then on the morning of New Year's Day, we looked out of the window and saw this!
